The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday announced the squad for the last 2 Tests against England. The majority of the squad remains the same, which was picked for the first two matches of the four-match series. Shardul Thakur was released from the squad and given permission to participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In a media statement, the BCCI also mentioned that pacer Umesh Yadav will join the team for the last two games in Ahmedabad and will replace Shardul in the squad after being assessed by the medical team.
“Umesh Yadav will join the team after his fitness assessment in Ahmedabad and will replace Shardul Thakur,” the statement read.
India lost the series opener by 227 runs but came roaring back in the second Test to level the series by 1-1 with a comfortable 317-run win over the visitors on a raging turner at the Chepauk Chennai.
The outcome of the test series will also decide who will play the World Test Championship final against New Zealand.
For the last 2 tests, Standby players included in case of any injuries: KS Bharat, Rahul Chahar. Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shahbaz Nadeem, and Priyank Panchal were also released for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Five net bowlers will be part of India’s squad in Ahmedabad. This includes Ankit Rajpoot, Avesh Khan, Sandeep Warrier, Krishnappa Gowtham, Saurabh Kumar.

The third Test will be a pink-ball Day-Night in Ahmedabad, beginning February 24. The series decider will also take place at the same venue on March 4.
